JOURNAL / PARENTHOOD

Mindfulness in a full
parenting day.

The practice can be small enough to fit inside the day you already have.

Start with an ordinary moment

Mindfulness does not require a quiet house or an uninterrupted morning. Notice the temperature of the water while washing your hands, the feeling of a mug, or one sound in the room. A few seconds of attention can be a complete practice.

Name what is here

“I’m tired.” “That was hard.” “I need a moment.” Naming a feeling can create a little space without making the feeling disappear. You can be loving and overwhelmed in the same day.

Choose a gentler return

If you lose patience or your mind wanders, the next moment is another place to begin. A practice is not a record of getting everything right. It is the act of noticing and returning, as many times as life asks.

Let support be part of the plan

Asking someone to listen, take over a task or help find professional support is part of care. You do not have to make a practice carry a need that requires more help. Begin with what is useful, and leave the rest.

Make a little room for this moment.

Try a brief practice, or explore the support that fits your next step.
